How to Protect Against Cold and Flu This Season

Now that we’re in the thick of winter, cold and flu season is finally upon us. With so many illnesses going around and germs spreading left and right, it can be difficult to avoid falling victim to the bug. And let’s face it, you probably can’t afford to get sick in the midst of your busy life—nobody can! Luckily, there are preventative measures you can take to fight off the flu this season. Take a look at our list!

Wash your hands frequently. Germs and bacteria are everywhere—on doorknobs, remotes, handles, keyboards, grocery carts, even your own cell phone. Picking up germs throughout the day is unavoidable, but you’d be surprised how easy it is to stay healthy and clean just by keeping your hands washed. With a little bit of soap and water, you can eliminate an entire day’s worth of germs in a matter of seconds! Just be sure to take to the sink frequently throughout the day in order to stay sterilized—not just after using the bathroom (but please, please do that too).

Avoid touching your face. Germs are able to most easily infiltrate the body through the eyes, mouth, and nose. On top of this, our hands are continually picking up germs through constant contact with the objects and people around us. That’s why it is so important not only to keep your hands washed, but also to avoid touching your face! Try to steer clear of rubbing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your mouth (finger licking, nail biting, etc.), and wiping your nose with your hands.

Eat a balanced diet. Nutrition is incredibly important not only in keeping your body healthy and strong, but also in keeping up your immune health! In short, eat your fruits and veggies. There are so many immune-boosting foods you can incorporate into your diet to fight cold and flu, so even if you’re a picky eater, you should be able to find something you like! Keep a lookout for foods like yogurt, tea, broccoli, peppers, kiwi, almonds, onions, and citrus fruits which act as immune-boosters.

Exercise. Avoid getting sick this season by taking to the gym for a good workout! Exercising regularly is a great way not only to keep your body in shape, but also to strengthen your immune system. The stronger the immune system, the better equipped your body is to fight off illness!

Take immune-boosting vitamins. Looking to go the extra mile to stay healthy this season? Invest in some daily vitamins to keep up your immune health! There are so many different types of vitamins out there that are specifically meant to strengthen your immune system. For example, vitamins C, E, D, and A are all great supplements in keeping your body strong against germs, and they can be found in a wide variety of multivitamins. Not to mention, lots of daily vitamins taste great and even come in the form of a gummy! If that doesn’t sell you, we don’t know what will.

Carry hand sanitizer. Carrying hand sanitizer is a simple and effective way to keep your body protected from germs anytime, anywhere! Using hand sanitizer to disinfect your hands throughout the day is a sure-fire way to eliminate germs without having to constantly rush to the sink. Not to mention hand sanitizer comes in small, easy to store portable bottles that fit great in a purse, pocket, or bag!

Give the cold shoulder to the common cold this season by following our six tips! Cold and flu season can be daunting, but getting sick isn’t inevitable. Make sure you’re taking the necessary precautions to protect your body!
