Maybe some of you have already completed your back-to-school shopping, but for all of you last-minute folks, let me help you out. One of the biggest pain points for parents is preparing for a full week of lunches again—and making sure they’re nutritious! One way to guarantee you're making the right choices as you navigate the grocery aisles is to check if the products you are buying are Smart Snack approved.
What is a Smart Snack, you ask? Well, keep reading, and I will make sure to inform you of everything you need to know to keep your child well nourished this school year!
Did you know almost a quarter of kids’ daily calories come from snacks? This is one of the many reasons why it is so important to be sending your kids to school with healthy, nutritious snacks that provide them with more than just empty calories. Kids who eat healthier are more likely to perform better academically, and by placing an emphasis on eating Smart Snacks, they can do just that.
So, back to that question of what constitutes a Smart Snack. A Smart Snack is a snack that meets the following criteria:
Oftentimes schools are already incorporating Smart Snacks into their standard school protocol. In fact, Smart Snacks are a Federal requirement for all foods sold outside the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Any food and beverage sold to students via vending machines, snack bars, or the cafeteria (à la carte items) during the school day are required to meet the Smart Snacks standards. You can actually find Whoa Dough in many schools to date, being sold not only within the lunch programs, but as an à la carte item as well. Did we mention five of our seven flavors are Smart Snack-approved?
Now that you know what to look for to ensure your child is getting the nutrition they need, it is time to go grocery shopping for your back to school snacks! While we highly recommend you stock up on some Whoa Dough, we understand if you want some additional ideas.
Here is a list of some popular Smart Snack approved products by brand favorites to get you started:
Additionally, if you are curious as to whether a snack you buy for your child is Smart Snack approved, you can always enter the information from the products’ nutrition facts panel into the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Smart Snacks Product Calculator.
What are some of your go-to healthy and nutritious snacks to pack for your kiddos? We could always use some more ideas! Leave us some in the comments below.
]]>Todd Goldstein, the founder of Whoa Dough, and his three young boys all suffer from Celiac Disease. When Todd was younger, he never understood what caused him to feel so awful all of the time. From constant intestinal discomfort to daily fatigue, Todd always felt like there was something wrong. Unfortunately, doctors never seemed to be able to determine the root of Todd’s discomfort due to a lack of physician familiarity with the disease. Celiac Disease is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed and untreated diseases due to its varying symptomatic nature and difficult diagnostic measures. In order to ensure a patient has Celiac, the patient must get a blood test or biopsy of their small intestine with gluten still in their system (NIDDK). Even with the growing awareness, Celiac is misdiagnosed in about 97% of all cases (WSTM).
Flash forward to 2011 when Todd was finally diagnosed with a gluten intolerance and his whole world changed. Not only did he no longer have to deal with constant pain and discomfort, but he was able to start enjoying foods more freely again. Knowing what ingredients to avoid allowed him to start exploring alternatives of his favorite foods that made him feel good. One thing he could not seem to find a decent replacement for though was cookie dough—and that was a problem for an avid cookie dough lover like Todd! When he became a father and realized his children would also not be able to experience the magical joy of cookie dough, Todd decided to take things into his own hands. It took many months and a countless number of recipe iterations, but finally in 2020 he was able to launch Whoa Dough cookie dough bars to market.
While we can’t be the ones to give you a proper diagnosis, if you are experiencing digestive symptoms such as bloating, chronic diarrhea, constipation, gas, nausea, vomiting, or pain in the abdomen—and haven’t been tested for Celiac Disease—we recommend talking to your physician about getting tested. Although this disease is gaining awareness within the medical community, it is still often overlooked, which is why it is so important that we continue to share stories such as Todd’s to the public. Because who knows, it just might help someone suffering and change their lives for the better!
]]>Every year as summer gets closer, panic starts to set in as you remember all those appointments you forgot to book: doctor, dentist, orthodontist, ophthalmologist– you name it! There always seems to be an endless amount of appointments that need to be made before the school year starts up again.Thankfully, there’s still time! If you haven’t already, use this article as a reminder to get those appointments booked before all the slots are filled for the summer.
2. Are you planning a vacation?
Summer vacations always seem to be on the forefront of your mind during the year as you work tirelessly and begin counting the days until you can take a much needed break. However, usually that summer vacation only stays planned out in your head, and by the time summer rolls around, you have completely forgotten that you still need to actually book everything. In order to get that perfect dream vacation you have thought about the entire year, make sure you hurry up and book everything now. Don’t forget the hotels, reservations for dinners and activities, and the mode of travel.
3. Have you stocked up on summer essentials?
Now is the time to start buying popular summer essentials before the price shoots up for summer. Make sure you are stocked up on things like sunscreen, grill supplies, bug spray, and other essentials you know you will be using during the summer. Maybe even plan way ahead and buy some things you know you will be needing for the Fourth of July, like fireworks!
4. Any summer birthdays or significant events?
Birthdays sure do like to sneak up on you. If you, your child, or maybe even a close friend or relative have a summer birthday, make sure to start planning now! It can take forever to think of the perfect gift, or plan the perfect party, so it is best to start coming up with ideas now. Just think about how much stress will be taken off your shoulders if you can successfully plan someone’s birthday WEEKS in advance.
5. Are you stocked up on summer snacks and indoor activities?
Now that your kids will likely be home for most of the day during the summer weeks, you’ll need to make sure they are well fed and entertained. Make sure you keep the fridge loaded with healthy snacks like fruits and veggies, hummus, yogurt, cheese sticks, etc., as well as the pantry, with snacks like veggie sticks, whole-grain crackers, protein bars, nuts, etc. Make sure you have some healthy dessert options as well to keep their sweet tooth satisfied. We hear they like Whoa Dough bars, hehe.
Almost as important as keeping the fridge and pantry stocked with nutritious snacks is keeping the house stocked with fun kid-friendly activities, especially for those inevitable rain days. The last thing you need while trying to enjoy your summer is bored kids. Some fun activities you can get for them include drawing and painting kits, jigsaw puzzles, slime kits, various arts & crafts, baking mixes, and board games– just to name a few.
Hopefully you find this checklist helpful and are able to utilize it to remember everything you need to get done before summer. Just think, in a few weeks you could be sitting on a beach somewhere, getting a nice tan and reading one of your favorite books. We hope you enjoy these last few weeks before summer!
]]>Did you try it? What did you think? We seriously would love to know, so don’t be shy. Comment below. Write us an email. Send snail mail, whatever tickles your fancy. And in case you were living under a rock last week, here’s the skinny.
We’ve perfectly captured the classic taste of a sweet and savory oatmeal cookie—but with a healthier twist! We’re proud that only all-natural ingredients, such as gluten-free whole-grain oats, brown sugar, and chickpea flour, are used to craft our better-for-you snack bars, and we’re excited for our new and returning customers to try it!
That’s directly from our Founder, Todd Goldstein’s mouth. And in case that doesn’t get you excited to try our new bar, here’s 5 Reasons to Love Oatmeal Cookie Dough.
No Artificial Ingredients
All of our cookie dough bars, including the new Oatmeal Cookie Dough, are made with real ingredients such as Gluten-Free Whole Grain Oats, Brown Sugar, Chickpea Flour, Sea Salt, to name a few. We strive to be as transparent as possible when it comes to our ingredients; Each ingredient serves a greater purpose and is there for a reason. We do not use unnecessary additives in our bars, as our goal is to keep our product as clean and nutrient dense as possible.
It’s Gluten Free, Soy Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free
When we tell people our bars are gluten free, soy free, dairy free, egg free, vegan, we often get asked what exactly is IN our bars. The majority of our bar(s) consists of a base of gluten free whole grain oat and chickpea flour. These flours are unrefined and rich in vitamins and minerals. Additionally, our flour blend affects blood sugar far less than typical wheat flour.
Perfect On-The-Go Snack
Our favorite thing about our bars is how easy they are to take on the go. Whoa Dough cookie dough bars have a shelf life of twelve months and can be eaten at room temperature, chilled, or baked. Health is all about balance, and this is one way you can enjoy a simple indulgence before or after your workouts, during a work shift, taking off for your business trip, or heading to a playdate (enjoy it before you get there, the kiddos are going to want a piece of these bars).
150 calories, 3 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar
That’s it. That’s the reason. Our Whoa Dough bars are perfect for any type of lifestyle: low sugar, low carb, low calorie, gluten free. Our bars are also allergy-friendly, vegan, and plant based (see more info below). All of our bars range from 140 to 170 calories, 3-5 grams of protein, and contain less than 10 grams of sugar. So whether you’re eating one of our other six flavors, or the newest Oatmeal Cookie Dough bar, you’ve got options.
Plant Based
The sweeteners we use in our bars are top tier and derived directly from plants. And while they don’t include vegetables, it’s one way to get your kiddos used to sweet treats with less sugar—and teach them about plant-based ingredients while you’re at it.
And then you can teach your little ones about Whoa Dough’s new bar, Oatmeal Cookie Dough… just kidding. But it has come to our attention that our little ones at the office are eating more of these bars than us. We can’t keep our snack room stocked!
If you’re interested in giving our new flavor a try, here’s a link to order one free bar. Be sure to select the teal colored bar labeled Oatmeal Cookie Dough—we just love the color, don’t you? Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Much Love and Appreciation,
The Whoa Dough team
]]>As I mentioned above, I fully support taking a couple days off when needed. Rest is not a bad thing, it actually helps your muscles to rebuild and recover, and taking those days to “cheat” on your diet is okay too. I believe breaks are vital to progress, and it is important to allow yourself to occasionally give in to unhealthy habits so it doesn’t build up and cause you to spiral down an unhealthy path later on. If you are craving that burger or slice of cake, eat it! Restricting only leads to binging later on.
So now you’ve taken a small break to rest and maybe “cheat” a little, how do you make sure you get back on track? Inspiration can be hard to come by, but there are a couple things you can do to make sure you stay inspired. First, you can remind yourself why you began this journey in the first place. Simply reflecting on why you chose to pursue your New Year’s resolutions can help remind you that continuing those goals will be worth it. Second, try to find inspiration in others. Do you have someone you look up to in the health and fitness world to help motivate you? There are all kinds of trainers, teachers, and nutritionists on Instagram. Just do a quick hashtag search!
Piggybacking off finding inspiration in others, another option is to find an accountability partner who can support you (and hopefully participate in) this journey to better health. Sometimes all you need is a friend to exercise with or meal plan and prep on a Sunday with. Unpopular opinion: Sometimes you just need someone to engage in some friendly competition with. That’s what keeps me motivated!
Have you been doing the same things since the beginning of January? Maybe it is time to change your routine up a bit. I think a little bit of change can go a long way in helping you stay motivated. Besides, your body gets bored of doing the same things everyday, and oftentimes, you end up plateauing. So how can you implement some changes to your routine? Maybe you can try changing up your meals a bit and testing out some new recipes. Or maybe you can engage in some group exercise classes or switch up the type of exercise you’re doing… for example, If you’ve just been doing pilates and HIIT, try yoga and zumba!
One thing that always helps me stay on track with my goals is to record my progress. If I am ever feeling particularly unmotivated, I like to look back at where I was day one and see the amount of progress I've made. It can be such a rewarding and satisfying feeling to see how far you’ve come since the beginning.
Just like recording your progress, journaling about your goals and progress can also be an effective form of motivation. Before you start or end each day, take a few minutes or so to reflect in your journal. Try looking up some prompts online if you can’t think about what to write. Or one of my favorite go-to prompts is to write three things I am grateful for that day.
As you continue with your resolutions through February and March (and the rest of the year), make sure you are adding new goals to achieve in addition to your resolutions. Most, if not all of your goals, should be something you can achieve within a foreseeable amount of time. You don’t want to have unrealistic goals or only goals that can’t be attained anytime soon. Having a long-term goal is fine, but you want to make sure you also have some short-term goals to support that long-term goal so you don’t get discouraged.
Hopefully these seven tips will help you to remain motivated and carry out your goals past January. Just remember, a healthier you is a happier you!
]]>Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to be more active? Well here’s a good way to be both active and frugal! Pack yourself a nice backpack full of water and snacks, and head to your nearest hiking trail with the family. Hiking is a great way to get your daily dose of vitamin D while also taking in scenic views and possible wildlife.
No matter where you live, there’s usually a farmer’s market you can visit with the family. Some colder states even do indoor farmer’s markets during the winter months. For example, in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, the North Union Farmers Market has both indoor and outdoor locations listed on their website. In fact, Whoa Dough occasionally does pop-ups at these markets and will even give out free bars to the kids! Farmer’s markets are a great place to indulge in locally owned products. You can support small businesses and enjoy fresh products that you likely would not be able to find otherwise.
Another great way to fulfill your New Year's resolution while also enjoying the outdoors is to go on a family bike ride. Whether you go riding around town or find yourself riding along a trail, biking is a fantastic way to stay busy on a budget. Not to mention, you have the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint for the day! Don’t forget to pack snacks for the ride—Whoa Dough is the perfect on-the-go snack for long bike rides. Kid approved, too!
Watching a movie is a simple way to spend time with the family. Plus, it’s relaxing and free, which is ideal after dealing with the stress of the holidays. One thing you could do is host a fun and friendly baking competition with the family to see who gets to pick the movie. That way you’ll have treats for the movie! But don’t forget the popcorn. Everyone could pick their favorite cookie recipe and add their own twist to it like more chocolate chips or sprinkles. Like we always say, who doesn’t love cookie dough?
Want to spend more time outside but don’t want to break a sweat? Well, a picnic is the perfect way to soak up the sun while remaining relaxed. Pack a basket with some food (sandwiches, fruit, and veggies don’t require utensils), blankets, and games (Go Fish was always fun as a kid) and find the perfect spot to enjoy your delicious spread with the family. Don’t forget to pack some dessert as well—Whoa Dough bars are the perfect picnic-friendly dessert as they are easy to store and eat. Lastly, bring some entertainment with you! Pack a frisbee or football to toss with the family as well as a speaker so you can listen to some tunes.
Hopefully one or more of these activities sound fun for you and your family. We know that recovering from the holidays can be difficult, and being able to still provide entertainment to your family is important. Even if you choose not to do any of the above activities, all that matters is that you spend time together as a family and create memories that will last a lifetime!
]]>Do you know someone who tends to misplace things a lot? If you do, this would be the perfect gift for them! Tile Item Finders are under $20 and are a very practical and useful gift. I got one last year, and it has already saved me the trouble of looking for my handbag three times!
While Apple seems to take the cake when it comes to all things electronic, JBL is a cheaper and just as efficient option. Some of their headphones can be found on sale for up to 50% off on Amazon during the holiday season– so act fast!
OK, so this one may be an obvious choice, but who doesn’t love getting food as a gift? I know snacks and homemade food items are one of my favorite gifts to find nestled under my tree. As they say, food is the way to a person’s heart, and when that food is cookie dough, let’s just say you’ll have one happy snacker. Give the gift of Whoa Dough this season!
Do you have kids at home? Another kid-friendly gift idea are squishmallows! They come in all different kinds of animals, food, etc., and have multiple sizes to choose from—their 5-inch ones are the perfect size for a little stocking stuffer! Even if you're not a young child, squishmallows can still be a great present. I'm a young adult, and I absolutely LOVE them! I would be lying if I said I didn’t keep them in my bed with me to have something soft to cuddle every night.
There are so many options to choose from when it comes to phone cases, and guess what? They fit perfectly in stockings. I have always loved to have several cases at a time in order to rotate them out every so often. I recommend going with a wallet case if you're like me and prefer to have all your cards, money, and phone in one place. Here are some of my favorites, some of which will ship in time for the holidays.
Looking for something cheap and small but still beloved by all? Fuzzy socks are the ultimate stocking stuffer, especially since they’re practically made for the holiday season. Nothing says Christmas morning quite like opening some gifts under the tree in your favorite pair of cozy socks.
If you haven’t hopped on board the polaroid trend, now’s the time. The FujiFilm Instax Mini is the perfect sized camera to carry around to create some instant memories. Even though its packaging may be a little too big to fit inside a stocking, you can always throw some polaroid film inside and give them the camera as an additional surprise once they see the film! This one may be harder to find on Amazon before Christmas morning, but many of your big box stores carry this awesome gift. Think of all the Whoa Dough bars you can snap a polaroid of?
Another practical gift that never seems to go wrong is a portable charger. This is the type of gift that is usually very useful, yet no one seems to actually buy one themselves. I could be wrong here, but personally I know I never would have gotten a portable charger if it weren’t for my mom giving me one as a gift. Now, I can’t imagine life without it! It has saved me on countless occasions, especially when I go to plugless places like the beach (perks of being a Florida girl!).
Are you surrounded by lots of avid coffee drinkers? I know coffee is a staple in my household, so I had to put the Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer on this list. This small and simple portable cup warmer keeps your coffee warm wherever you go so you don’t ever have to worry about drinking lukewarm coffee—or lukewarm tea!
This one is a no brainer. Last but certainly not least on our list is the most pragmatic gift of them all: a gift card. While everyone wants to be creative and give their loved ones the “best gift ever, sometimes all someone really wants is the freedom to buy whatever they want.
Are you feeling more prepared? Did you click “Add to Cart” on one or more of these awesome stocking stuffers? Hopefully this last-minute gift guide helps ease your stress this holiday season! Happy Holidays!
]]>Looking to still keep your favorite mashed potato recipe but make it vegan? Well, here are some simple ways you can make the thing you love, and eat it too! Simply replace the dairy called for in your recipe with almond milk, coconut milk, or even vegetable stock! Not in the mood to whip some potatoes up from scratch? Try Edward & Son’s Organic Homestyle Mashed Potatoes which can be found at your nearest Whole Foods.
While you can simply swap out the bread and butter your stuffing recipe calls for with gluten-free bread and vegan butter, we recommend going a different route. Make life a little easier and buy Aleia’s Savory Stuffing Mix at your local Whole Foods! Unfortunately, Aleia’s does include eggs so if you are fully vegan and not just dairy free, the former option may work better for you.
Even though mac n’ cheese seems to be a sensitive subject when it comes to labeling it as a Thanksgiving dish, I am sure everyone would still love to know the best vegan and gluten free alternatives out there. Without making it from scratch, the best known alternative has to be Banza’s plant-based mac. Banza has always been a staple in my house, with the pasta made from chickpeas and packed full of protein. If you like Whoa Dough bars, you’ll probably love Banza as both of our products are partially chickpea based!
Easily one of my Thanksgiving day favorites! I am a sucker for casseroles, and a good, creamy, cheesy corn casserole is just *chef’s kiss*. Unfortunately, the “cheesy” and “creamy” adjectives don’t make for a promising vegan-friendly dish; but have no fear! I have tried quite a few vegan and gluten free recipes, but my all-time favorite has to go to Strength and Sunshine. In order to make this casserole, you only need 5 ingredients: gluten free jiffy mix, creamed corn, sweet corn, vegan butter, and vegan sour cream. See the link below for the full recipe.
https://strengthandsunshine.com/vegan-corn-casserole-gluten-free/
Another amazing type of casserole consistently ruined by dairy… but this is thankfully fixable! Now, there are ways you can go about making an amazing rice casserole with vegan alternatives that still taste amazing. However, I am going to share with you an even quicker and (in my opinion) tastier option. Right Rice offers some of the most DELICIOUS gluten free and vegan alternatives, packed with the added power of veggies. They have two amazing holiday flavors: Brown Butter Sage and Holiday Stuffing. Both are top notch and are the perfect replacement for any rice casserole.
Ah, and the big one. Now I know what you’re thinking, what could possibly replace a great, big, juicy, Thanksgiving day Turkey? Honestly, this one may just be irreplaceable. However, here is a list of a few vegan brand Turkey alternatives that you can try this Thanksgiving:
–Quorn [Meatless] Turkey Style Roast
–Amy’s Veggie Loaf
–Field Roast Celebration Vegan Roast (not certified GF)
–Tofurky Plant-Based Holiday Feast (not certified GF)
–Gardein Plant-Based Turk’y Roast (not certified GF)
Desserts can be a whole other challenge when trying to navigate a gluten free and vegan Thanksgiving. However, when in doubt, you can always grab a Whoa Dough bar! We are firm believers that Whoa Dough bars pair perfectly with Thanksgiving food. Give it a try!
Happy Holidays!

…It’s now well into October, the official month of all things fall. While we don’t have a pumpkin spice flavored Whoa Dough bar (yet), we do have some opinions regarding some of the best fall flavored treats to indulge in. Just like Whoa Dough, the following products are also all vegan and gluten-free. Keep reading for some Whoa Dough approved fall time favorites!
With such a short list of ingredients, LesserEvil popcorn emerges as one of my favorite go-to snacks (besides Whoa Dough, duh). Their limited edition Pumpkin Spice flavored popcorn doesn’t disappoint; just try it yourself if you don’t believe me. Plus, it’s vegan and gluten-free!
Craving chocolate? Well, go grab a Brownie Batter Whoa dough bar. Craving chocolate AND pumpkin spice? Okay, let me direct you to Undercover’s pumpkin spice flavored dark chocolate quinoa crisps. Certified gluten-free, peanut free and tree nut free, this is the perfect chocolatey pumpkin crunch you’ve been looking for.
Another delicious way to get your chocolate fix is Hu’s Dark Chocolate, and they have TWO amazing fall flavors you can try (both allergen friendly of course)! Team gingerbread or pumpkin spice?
While this isn’t your typical “snack” per-say, I had to include this creamy goodness on the list. To all those with peanut allergies, this is by far one of the best nut butter alternatives out there. I wait all year long for this flavor to be released... not even kidding. I tend to eat it by the spoonful, but it can also be a great addition to some of your other snack-time favorites: crackers, fruit, yogurt, oats, you name it!
Much like the gingerbread pecan butter above, Oat Haus’s Pumpkin Spice Granola Butter is another delicious alternative to those with peanut allergies. In fact, it is a great alternative to ALL nut allergies, with as their base is purely oats. Their pumpkin spice flavor is out of this world, and not to mention, it meets our standards by being top 8 allergen free!
Go snatch this limited edition while you can! A great top 9 allergen free choice for when you are craving a pumpkin spice flavored cookie. Plus, it’s soft baked! Who doesn’t love a good soft baked cookie?
Another great fall-themed cookie is Emmy’s Pumpkin Spice Cookies. This is also an allergen friendly soft and chewy cookie, plus, it has coconut! If you're a coconut fiend like myself, you’ll really enjoy this one.
Another delicious plant-based and wholesome bar, Bobo’s offers a limited edition Pumpkin Spice Oat Bar during the fall. Love the tasteful combination of oats and pumpkin like myself? Well then you’ve got to try this.
Who here loves Rice Krispy Treats? Who can’t have them due to dairy, gluten, and/or soy? Well then, give Blake’s a try! Their take on one of our childhood favorites is exceptional; you would never be able to tell that they’re top 9 allergen free! Their pumpkin spice flavored crispy treat adds that much more of a draw!
Last but not least, we have Ka-Pop’s Pumpkin Spice Puffs. Who doesn’t love puffed snacks? Add some pumpkin spice to the mix, and now you’ve got a real winner. These puffs are top TWELVE allergen free– and are friggin’ delicious.
Hopefully you go out and try some of these delicious allergen friendly goodies. With Halloween just 3 days away, this is a great time to buy these treats; hand them out, or keep them to yourselves– we won’t tell (and wouldn’t blame you).
]]>The majority of our bar consists of a base of whole grain oat and chickpea flour. These flours are unrefined, and rich in vitamins and minerals. Not to mention, they are high in dietary fiber and add a hint of natural protein to the bars as well. Additionally, our flour blend affects blood sugar far less than typical wheat flour
The sweeteners we use in our bars are top tier. We do not use processed sweeteners, and instead use sweeteners that are derived directly from plants. Brown sugar contains certain minerals not found in table sugar, and is much lower in calories. Allulose does not affect your blood sugar or insulin levels, as it is not converted to glucose. We also use semi-sweet chocolate chips in our bars, which are made of unsweetened chocolate and cocoa butter. Cocoa butter adds a boost of antioxidants and vitamin E.
Did you know that palm oil is rich in antioxidants and can help reduce your risk of heart disease? It also contributes to better brain health, and can even improve vision. We ensure our palm oil is sourced sustainably and contributes only beneficially to our bars.
Tapioca fiber is known to reduce inflammation and improve gastrointestinal health. It is also known to help lower cholesterol and fight harmful bacteria within the gut.
Last but not least we have natural flavors and sea salt to add additional flavor to the bar. Our natural flavors are made from plant sources, and provide no harmful chemicals to the bar. Just like sea salt, it is merely a way to boost the flavor profile and create an even tastier treat for you to enjoy.
Now that you are more familiar with what exactly is in our bars, we hope you can take deeper pleasure in consuming our product. You know what you are getting when you eat a Whoa Dough bar, and we will continue to remain nothing but transparent about our ingredients.
Snack happy!
]]>Having trouble motivating yourself to start eating healthier, get to the gym, or even get adequate work done? Well, many times we struggle as much as we do because we tend to have an all or nothing mentality. We believe we have to achieve all our goals instantaneously, or else we tend to get discouraged and not bother trying at all. Sometimes we forget that change takes time, and the most important thing is to keep trying hard and moving forward. Just aim to be a little more productive than you were yesterday– but remember, progress is not linear.
Going from an extended period of relaxation to an active season can be challenging mentally. Your brain may struggle in making such a big change in such a short period of time, and that in turn can affect your mental health. Make sure you are prioritizing YOU, and don’t let your increasingly active schedule prevent you from making time for yourself. Try to engage in relaxing daily activities such as taking a hot bath, reading a good book, or watching your favorite show– even if it is just for a little bit!
It is easy to begin undertaking a negative mindset when your schedule begins to pick up. Just remember that the more you allow negative thoughts to penetrate your mind, the worse you are going to begin to feel. Try finding small wins throughout your day, or begin reciting daily positive affirmations.
Oftentimes, we struggle as much as we do because we don’t effectively plan out our weeks and organize our time. It can feel as though you have considerable clutter in your head if you don’t write out a schedule, which can in turn cause ample stress and reduce productivity. Try purchasing an agenda and mapping out your weekly schedule in order to reduce the amount of anxiety surrounding your week.
It is hard to get through a busy day sometimes if you don't have the proper motivation. In order to avoid plateauing or regressing, try giving yourself daily goals. Whether these goals amount to work, fitness, or even your personal life, strive to better yourself by working towards something. Goals can help increase productivity and foster a better attitude for oneself.
Sleep is important! Don’t let the change in season or routine be the reason your sleep begins to falter. Make sure you are getting an adequate night’s rest, and that you are prioritizing about 8 hours of sleep every night. Try shutting off your electronics 30 minutes to an hour before your self-designated bed time, and sticking to the same time schedule every night.
Even if it is just a short walk around the block, make sure you are getting daily activity. Even though you may find yourself with less time on your hands than during the summer, make sure you are still making the effort to get outside or to the gym. Not only is it good, albeit, necessary for your physical health, but it also does wonders for your mental health and productivity levels.
Of course, one of the arguably most important tips to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is making sure you're eating right. Nutrition is one of the top factors in guaranteeing one’s success. Did you know that you are way more likely to be productive if you eat right? Not only will you have more energy to get through the day, but you will also feel happier, stronger, and healthier the more you prioritize your diet. Here at Whoa Dough, we like to believe that all foods fit, and to focus on a general 80/20 rule, whereby 80% of your diet is composed of nutrient dense foods, and the other 20% is composed of whatever foods bring you joy. (Just as a quick side note, Whoa Dough happens to fit in either category, so if this article isn’t your daily reminder to go grab a Whoa Dough bar, consider it to be so!)
]]>We are proud to announce that our delicious, on-the-go, cookie dough bars are taking to the skies as the popular, gluten-free snack, for American Airlines first-class passengers.

“The sky’s really the limit for Whoa Dough now that American Airlines, the largest airline in the world, will be offering first-class passengers our tasty, plant-based snack bars that are also gluten-free,” stated Todd Goldstein, founder of Whoa Dough. “Having a major airline carry our line is incredibly exciting for us, as we are eager for Whoa Dough to be enjoyed by millions of travelers every day who are looking for a healthier all-natural snack—without compromising on taste during their flight. Our snack bars are also ideal for passengers with dietary restrictions.”
See the article below for more information. Happy snacking!
]]>Now what constitutes as an enjoyable school safe snack? Well first off, a school safe snack is often allergen free, particularly nuts, but a school quality snack also includes something often overlooked: it’s packed with natural ingredients. It’s easy to deem a snack like Oreos a school safe snack, after all, they’re vegan and don’t have nuts, that must mean they’re healthy, school safe snacks, right? Wrong. Like many other popular childrens’ snacks, Oreos are chalked full of artificial and not-so-good for you ingredients that will leave you feeling crappy and oftentimes lethargic. This article will go through ten of the most popular not-so-healthy snacks children eat, and will replace it with a healthier, school safe alternative.
Since I used Oreos in the introduction, it is only fitting to give them a proper health conscious alternative. Catalina Crunch’s Sandwich Cookies come in floor flavors: chocolate vanilla, peanut butter, chocolate mint, and vanilla creme. While there are nuts in the peanut butter flavor, all of the cookies are vegan, non-gmo, keto, lower sugar, and have nothing artificial.
If I am being honest, I am a sucker for Annie’s. Annie’s has so many different snacks/food it’s not even funny. One of my favorites however has to be the cheddar bunnies (I particularly like the white cheddar flavor). They are made with real cheddar cheese and lack artificial flavors and coloring (unlike goldfish).
This one pains me to write. SO many people view Smartfood Popcorn as a healthy snack, when in reality it is packed full of artificial ingredients. Not to mention, it contains one of the worst things out there: corn syrup. If you are looking for an actual healthy snack, try LesserEvil’s popcorn! They have a variety of different flavors, including delicious seasonal flavors as well. Not to mention, their popcorn is organic, non-gmo, gluten free, and vegan.
Mmm. Cheetos. One of my childhood favorites. I know it can be hard to give up that delectably cheesy taste and those orange fingers, so maybe you don’t have to! Hippeas are a great alternative to Cheetos, as they feel and taste just like the real thing! They are made from organic chickpeas, and contain 3g of fiber and 3g of protein per serving.
Team Cinnamon Brown Sugar or Frosted Strawberry? I was always more of a Frosted Strawberry fan myself growing up, that is until I realized it was full of artificial, refined, unhealthy ingredients. Bobo’’s Toaster Pastries on the other hand, are organic, have 18g of whole grains, are plant-based, and are dairy-free. (Also, if you do happen to be team Cinnamon Brown Sugar, Bobo’s just released a Cinnamon Brown Sugar flavor!)
It's hard to resist the unique flavor profile of crispy and sweet puffed rice enlaced with melted marshmallows, but believe me when I say it is for the best. Rice Krispy Treats are chalked full with artificial and toxic ingredients. However, there is a great alternative made by Made Good that tastes even better in my opinion. Made Good’s Crispy Squares are made up of a serving of vegetables, are gluten free, organic, vegan and non-gmo.
You would never believe that From The Ground up Cheddar Crackers are made from cauliflower! They are absolutely delicious, and are the perfect Cheez-it replacement. Not to mention they are vegan, gluten free, non-gmo, and significantly lower in calories than Cheez-its.
Oftentimes, apple sauce is filled with added sugars and unnecessary unhealthy ingredients. GoGo Squeez pouches, however, have nothing artificial, and the ingredient list is made purely from fruits and veggies. The best part? You don’t even need a spoon! You can eat GoGo SqueeZ straight from the pouch.
Nothing beats a classic chocolate chip cookie, I personally find myself craving them on the daily. Thankfully, there are many healthier options to choose from rather than Chips Ahoy when looking for that chocolate chip cookie fix. For example, Simple Mills has the best both soft, and crispy chocolate chip cookies– and they’re good for you! They are made using unrefined sweeteners, simple ingredients, and are certified gluten-free, soy- free, corn free, dairy free, and gums/emulsifiers free.
This one may be the most obvious of them all. Who needs candy bars when you've got Whoa Dough? It’s not even just candy bars; Whoa Dough can replace any unhealthy sweet. Not only does it satisfy your sweet tooth, but each Whoa Dough bar is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, non-gmo, kosher, and oh-so delicious!
]]>To begin, it is first important to identify the necessary components you will use for every baked treat. This includes flour, oil, a binding agent, and a sweetener. You also are going to want to have some good add-ins on hand, because let's be real, 99% of the time the add-ins make the recipe (who wants to have chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips?). Now that we have identified the key constituents of a baked good, let’s list some gluten-free, healthy alternative swaps that we can use:
1) Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour
Now this is going to be your best choice if you are looking for something that tastes most like your typical baking flour. It is also going to be the easiest choice if you are following a recipe that is not already gluten-free (whereby you are converting the ingredients to gluten-free on your own). A lot of times when baking with different types of flour, you will have to change ratios of the recipe in order to make it fit with the new flour. However, using Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free flour, that does not seem to be an issue.
2) Almond Flour
My personal favorite flour swap has to be almond flour. I personally love the texture it brings to most recipes, adding a tiny essence of nuttiness to your baked goods. Now, if you aren’t a nut fan: don’t be frightened! I promise that you cannot tell your baking with grinded-up almonds. If anything, the added nutty-like texture it brings is a whole new flavor profile! As far as brands go, I personally tend to gravitate towards Bob Red Mill’s Unblanched Almond Flour.
3) Oat Flour
Another great gluten-free flour swap is oat flour, especially if you are looking for the most affordable option. You can even make it yourself by blending some gluten-free oats. Oat flour holds a dear place in our hearts, as it is the main base in our delicious Whoa Dough Bars! If this doesn’t tell you how tasty oat flour can make recipes, then I don’t know what else can.
1) Coconut Oil
My favorite baking oil is most definitely coconut oil. Coconut oil is not only flavorful, but it adds a great nutrition component to your baked goods. Did you know that coconut oil contains MCTs, a saturated fat linked to an increase in calorie burn? (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/top-10-evidence-based-health-benefits-of-coconut-oil#TOC_TITLE_HDR_4)
2) Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is great due to its high smoke point. It can withstand heat up to 520ºF without getting chemically altered. Avocado oil only brings a mild flavor profile, and seems to be one of the more neutral tasting oils within a recipe. As far as brands go, I tend to use Primal Kitchen’s Avocado Oil because it is made purely of avocado oil. Be on the lookout for brands that add unnecessary fillers to their oils.
3) Olive Oil
Olive oil is always a great option when you don’t have anything else on hand. The smoking point is quite lower when compared to avocado oil, but it is still a great alternative to most vegetable oils. Some people report a mild taste associated when baking with olive oil, but I personally never seem to taste it. Primal Kitchen makes great olive oil as well!
1) Banana
When in doubt, banana it out! I don’t know about you, but I tend to ALWAYS have ripening bananas on hand. I never seem to eat my bananas fast enough before the majority of them turn into mush. Good news though– you can use these blackening bananas as a binding agent in your recipes! This swap is more directed to vegans, but it can also just be viewed as a healthier swap to eggs (and of course it is gluten-free as well). The best part is, the banana makes the final product super moist!
2) Unsweetened Apple Sauce
Similar to banana, unsweetened applesauce can be used as an egg substitute. While I feel bananas create a better texture within the baked good, applesauce tends to have a less potent flavor than bananas. Thus, if you are not much of a banana fan, applesauce may be the better option for you.
3) Flax/Chia seeds
Another popular egg replacement is flax or chia seeds. I cannot vouch for this one quite as well, as I don’t typically use it myself, but it seems to be a great and nutritious alternative. The only downside to this is that you have to prep it, which if you are lazy like myself, you don’t always feel like taking the time to do. To use flax or chia seeds as a binding agent, you have to combine 1 tbsp flaxmeal/ chia seeds with 3 tbsp of water and let refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
1) Coconut Sugar
Coconut sugar is my absolute favorite granulated sweetener to use in recipes. It is a natural, plant-based sweetener that is significantly better for your blood sugar levels compared to regular table sugar. It also contains various more vitamins and minerals than your typical processed sugar.
2) Maple Sugar
Like coconut sugar, maple sugar is another great natural sweetener. There aren’t too many differences between the two, however maple sugar seems to be pricier and harder to find than coconut sugar.
3) Zero Sugar Alternates
If you are looking for a granulated sweetener that does not actually contain sugar (or calories for that matter), then I have a couple good options for you. A lot of sugar substitutes can actually be a lot worse for you than regular sugar (like splenda), but there are a few safer ones out there. I personally like to use Swerve Brown Sugar or Lakanto Monk Fruit. A lot of people also recommend stevia, although I tend to think it has an overpowering taste.
1) Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is one of the best sweeteners in my opinion when looking for a healthier, natural alternative. I find the flavor it adds to be exquisite and not too overpowering. It also works great to help bind recipes together.
2) Date Syrup
I haven’t experimented too much with date syrup, but I have heard a lot of good things surrounding Just Date Syrup. It is very similar to maple syrup, but the dates tend to add more of a caramel-esk flavor.
3) Honey
Honey is one of the more popular natural sweeteners. However, I am not too big of a fan of honey, so if you ask me, it ranks comparatively lower on the list. Honey also tends to be a deal-breaker for most vegans. However, if you like honey and you are looking for a healthier sugar swap, don’t sleep on honey.
Rather than list types of add-ins to use, I am just going to list a few great gluten-free brands (because, well, most add-ins are going to be chocolate chips anyways).
1) Enjoy Life
2) Unreal
3) HuKitchen
4) Lily’s
I hope you enjoyed this list of baking alternatives! Whether you are gluten-free, vegan, or just looking for healthier baking ingredients, this list should serve you well.
]]>With all my loathing towards August, I sometimes forget to enjoy the days of summer I still have remaining. There are still so many things I can do to make the last few days of summer unforgettable.
Now, you may be asking yourself what you can do that you haven’t already done in these last few weeks. By now, you may be sick of the beach, pool parties, barbecues, and binging on Netflix shows… Not to worry! I have something new you can try, especially if you are craving something unique and gratifying: a two week Summer’s Not Over Yet challenge! Upon completion, this challenge will leave you feeling healthy, motivated, and pleased– after all, who doesn’t want to end their summer feeling this way?
What is involved in this challenge you may ask? The objective of this challenge is to remain top 8 allergen free for a full two weeks. Okay. so now you may be asking yourself why in the name of all that is holy you would give up milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, gluten, and soy for fourteen days. The answer? By eliminating these eight allergens from your diet, you could discover an enhanced quality of life! Did you know that our very own Todd Goldstein, founder of Whoa Dough, lived over 20 years of his life without having realized he was allergic to gluten? He spent years of his life feeling constantly sick and tired, but after a suggestion to cut out gluten, he never looked back. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for people to be unaware of their own food allergies. You get so used to feeling a certain way that you don’t realize what you’re experiencing isn’t normal.
So why not give this challenge a try? Maybe you will discover something about yourself that you never would have thought to check before. Maybe you will wake up after these two weeks and feel as good as you’ve ever felt. Basically, you have nothing to lose from this challenge, and everything to gain. The best part? You can still enjoy Whoa Dough! Our chocolate Chip, Brownie Batter, Sprinkle Sugar Cookie, and Sugar Cookie bars all share the pleasure of being top 8 allergen free. So, grab a Whoa Dough, and start the challenge today.
]]>That being said, school is right around the corner. Some schools may have strict restrictions on what can go along in the lunchbox, and some might be a bit more laid back. One way or another, Whoa Dough is the perfect sweet snack for school. Four of our flavors are school-safe (No Nuts); Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Brownie Batter, Sugar Cookie Dough, and the kid favorite: Sprinkle Sugar Cookie Dough.
In middle school, there was a girl in my class with a peanut allergy so severe that if it was even in the air, there was a risk of an allergic reaction. 10 years later, I find myself not bringing peanut butter/nut products to college classes just in case someone in the 150-person lecture hall might have a similar allergy.
My favorite sweet treat before Whoa Dough was always a Snickers candy bar, but I couldn’t bring myself to take them to class. The best part of finding Whoa Dough was knowing I could have my sweet snack, and not compromise anyone’s health. Not to mention, I found something that had protein, half the sugar, and is overall better for my own health.
Whoa Dough fits almost any student’s lifestyle, whether it be a gluten-free diet, plant-based diet, vegan diet, or any other major allergens. It is the perfect treat to bring along to the class picnic, field trip, a class birthday party, or any other large school event.

]]>When it is so hot outside that basking in the sun just doesn’t seem like an option, here are some things you can do:
When was the last time you read a good book? Life is busy, I get it. I am definitely guilty of not putting aside much time to read in the last couple years. Sometimes all you want to do with your spare time is sleep or watch tv, and retire your brain for a bit. However, once you finally make that decision to pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read, I promise you won’t want to put it back down! I just recently began reading Beach Read by Emily Henry– my first “for fun” read in awhile– and I can hardly wait to finish writing this blog post so I can get back to it!
One hobby I constantly find myself engaging in when the weather’s poor is painting. I always forget just how therapeutic painting can be– I could spend hours with some paint and a brush. It’s a great way to save some money on home decor, and not to mention, I always feel so accomplished when I finish.
When was the last time you said, “I wish I could [insert skill here]”? For me, it was yesterday! I have always wanted to learn to play the piano, but I never really took the time to learn. Sure, sometimes I would go sit at the piano, watch some youtube videos, and mess around a bit, but I never really gave it my true dedication. This summer I’ve made it my goal to allot a certain amount of time each day to the piano. Hopefully I can inspire you to do the same with your dream skill!
Here’s a nice compromise: If the sun is just too strong for you, but you don’t want to sacrifice the outdoors completely, go for a refreshing swim! Even if you don’t have a pool, there are still ways to enjoy the water. For example, you can use your hose to make a homemade sprinkler! Just poke some small holes in a plastic bottle, and put your hose inside the bottle’s opening. Apply some tape to keep the hose from falling out and enjoy a homemade sprinkler to play in!
If you’re looking to still leave the house, but not spend the day in the sun, then you can always go thrifting. Prior to this summer, I had never gone thrift shopping before. My friend suggested it to me on a particularly hot day when we were originally set on going for a bike ride (thank goodness). I couldn’t believe how cheap everything was– I found a pair of $88 leggings for only $12! If you need a suggestion on a place to go, I would recommend seeing if there is a Plato’s Closet near you.
These are just some things you can do when the summer heat is too brutal. Hopefully you decide to try one of these activities out! Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated, and stocked up on Whoa Dough! ;)
]]>Whoa Dough is a plant-based, allergen-friendly, cookie dough bar. We have something for just about everyone out there, with 4 out of 6 of our products being top 8 allergen free. Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, lactose intolerant, or don’t do soy– you can enjoy all six of our delicious bars! If nuts don’t work for you, that’s fine too! We have 4 flavors that are nut-free!
Nothing! Nothing bad, that is. With our elimination of gluten, soy, egg, dairy, and other top allergens, we often get the question of what exactly is in our bar. The base of our Whoa Dough bars are a combination of gluten-free oat and chickpea flour, allowing our bars to contain a boost of both grain (from the oat), and protein (from the chickpea). We also sweeten our bars with allulose and brown sugar– both 100% natural, plant-based sweeteners.
Whoa Dough was founded after our CEO Todd Goldstein and his three boys were diagnosed with a severe gluten intolerance. Todd thought his cookie dough eating days were over until he came up with this snack-happy, natural, cookie dough bar that could satisfy both his family's sweet tooth, and allergen needs. After two years and dozens of recipes, Whoa Dough was born.
Whoa Dough is different than most. Unlike your typical snack bar or jar of cookie dough, Whoa Dough has no artificial ingredients, and doesn’t contain a bunch of unnecessary added sugar. You can eat a Whoa Dough bar and have no guilt about it afterwards, it is good for you, and it tastes exactly like cookie dough! There is nothing better than being able to eat something sweet, and knowing you won’t have to worry about it later.
If you’re in the United States, you’re in luck! You can purchase amazing Whoa Dough bars straight from our website as well as on Amazon. And If you’re in Ohio– you’re luckier than most (and how many times do you usually hear you’re lucky to be in Ohio?) as it’s in Heinen’s and Giant Eagle. Of course, for those of you not as lucky to be in Ohio, we are also in TJ Maxx, Paper Source, Festival, Tops, and Central Market, just to name a few. We are making our way into more retailers as we speak, so make sure to subscribe to our newsletter, and be on the lookout for updates!
Whoa Dough has a lot of exciting products in the works, from new product lines to brand new bar flavors, we’re always brainstorming new innovative ways to expand our lineup! Our goal is to continue servicing our allergen-free communities, as well as those who admire a healthier lifestyle.
Whoa Dough is taking over social media right now! You can find us on various platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and TikTok. Our Instagram and Twitter handles are both @Whoadough_, and our TikTok handle is @Whoadough. Make sure to check them out and give us a follow!

]]>Now that we have determined your need for some Whoa Dough in your baked goods, you may be wondering what you should make. Well, look no further! Keep reading for six heavenly recipes that pair great with Whoa Dough Bars.
BAKEABLE RECIPES:
1) Brownie Batter Mug Cake
What you’ll need:
First, preheat your oven to 350ºF. Next, add your banana to a bowl and mash it up (the riper the banana, the sweeter the brownie batter will be!). Mix in ½ cup of cacao powder and 2 tbsp of almond butter (or any kind of nut butter!) to the bowl with the banana. Now add 1 tbsp of maple syrup to the batter for an extra source of natural sweetness. This is an optional step depending on how sweet you like your desserts. After mixing everything together, take ½ of your brownie batter Whoa Dough bar and rip it up into little pieces. Fold in the pieces to your batter. Next, grease a small ramekin and pour in your batter. Place the ramekin in the oven and bake at 350ºF for 18 minutes. Once removed from the oven, add your favorite scoop of ice cream and tear up the rest of the BB Whoa Dough bar to use as a topping.
2) Funfetti Cookie Dough Skillet
What you’ll need:
Start by preheating your oven to 350ºF. In a large bowl, add 1 cup almond cup almond flour, ½ tsp baking powder, and ¼ tsp baking soda. In a separate bowl, add ⅓ cup almond butter, ¼ cup apple sauce (or banana), 3 tbsp maple syrup, and 1tsp vanilla extract. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix together until a dough forms. Add in your sprinkles and Sprinkle Sugar Whoa Dough bar (make sure to cut it up into small pieces!). Grease an iron-cast skillet and fold in the batter. Place in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes.
3) Banana Dough Bread
What you’ll need:
Begin by preheating the oven to 350ºF. In a large bowl, combine ¾ cup almond flour, ¾ cup oat flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp baking powder. Whisk well. In a separate bowl, add 1.5 bananas and mash into a puree. Then, add 1 tsp vanilla extract, 2 tbsp maple syrup, and ¼ cup almond milk and mix together. Once there are no clumps, add the wet ingredients into the dry and mix together. Once mixed well, add your Whoa Dough bars. Make sure to break the bars into small pieces before adding them to the batter. Reserve a small amount of dough to top off the loaf. Once everything is mixed together, grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper and fold in the batter. Top the loaf off with the remaining dough and place in the oven for 30 minutes.
NO BAKE RECIPES:
4) Yogurt Covered Cookie Dough Berry Balls
What you’ll need:
To begin, transfer your yogurt to a bowl. If you feel your yogurt lacks sweetness, add a tablespoon of maple syrup to it and mix well. Next, take each of your Whoa Dough bars and cut them into 4 equal pieces, and roll each piece into a ball. Make an indent in the middle of each ball and place a berry in the center. Cover the berry to the best of your ability by using the dough on the sides. One at a time, dowse each ball in the yogurt and place them onto a tray. Now put toppings of your choice on each of the balls for additional flavor and aesthetic (I used granola, cacao nibs, and sprinkles). Once you're finished putting on the toppings, place the tray in the freezer in order to chill the yogurt (I left my yogurt balls in the freezer overnight, but I am sure an hour would be sufficient).
5) Chocolate Covered Cookie Dough Balls
What you'll need:
This recipe is nice and simple! All you need to do is melt chocolate chips of your choice (I used white chocolate and dark chocolate) with a teaspoon of coconut oil in the microwave in 10 second intervals. Make sure you put your chocolate in a microwave safe container. Once melted, take your Whoa Dough bars and divide them into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and dip them into the melted chocolate. Transfer the balls onto a tray and add toppings of your choice such as coconut, crushed nuts, or mini chocolate chips! Now, chill your chocolate balls in either the fridge and freezer and let the chocolate harden. Enjoy!
6) Whoa Dough PB Fudge
What you’ll need:
Another nice and easy recipe to make and enjoy! All you need to do is combine your peanut butter, maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla in a bowl and mix together. Make sure to melt your coconut oil prior to adding it to the bowl. Next, chop up some Peanut Butter Whoa Dough bars (I used 1 plain PB bar and 1 PB chocolate chip bar) and add it to the mix. Fold the mixture into a square pan and place in the freezer. Make sure to freeze the fudge for at least an hour or two before cutting up the fudge.
Hopefully you try 1 (or all!) of these 6 delicious recipes! They are the perfect healthy substitute to your favorite desserts, and if you're a sweet-tooth like me, they’re a real game changer! Invite some friends and family over for some fun in the sun! Inflate some red, white, and blue floaties, get a few star-spangled beach balls, and throw on some Independence themed swimwear. Plus, we have the perfect snack that goes along with a day by the pool– your red, white, and blue cookie dough balls!
One cool craft you can try this 4th of July is creating some fireworks in a jar! Using just oil, water, and food coloring, you can create a vibrant, colorful reaction that reminds you of fireworks! First, fill a jar ¾ of the way with warm water. Next, combine 3 tablespoons of oil and a few drops of different food colorings in a separate bowl. Use a fork to mix the oil and food coloring together, and then pour it into the jar of water. Watch the reaction of the food coloring with the water!
Learn more about the science behind this at https://www.icanteachmychild.com/fireworks-in-a-jar/.
Whether you decide to go out to watch the fireworks, or you set them off yourself, you can't have 4th of July without them! There is no better way to spend the evening than watching beautiful pops of color explode in the sky with your friends and family. Don’t forget to bring a picnic blanket and some bug spray, and while you're at it, pack some Whoa Dough bars as well!
In addition to fireworks, another essential part of July 4th are sparklers. They are fun, festive, and the perfect prop for some adorable photos! You can make a game out of them– using the sparkler as a timer, try reciting different categories of things and see who can rattle off the most before the sparkler burns out!
You can also set up a big screen outside in order to project a movie under the fireworks! Pick a good patriotic movie, get some blankets and some popcorn, relax, and enjoy watching a movie outside with your friends and family.
**Whoa Dough Tip: Add some torn up Whoa Dough bars to your popcorn for a delectable sweet and salty treat.
No matter what you choose to do this 4th of July weekend, don’t forget to enjoy it! As I mentioned before, summer will be over before you know it, so cherish these moments you have with your friends and family.
]]>Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Ah. The classic. The OG. The one everybody can count on. Chocolate Chips certainly know how to bring a good time while still being cautious and calculated. They are dependable, and usually live a pretty predictable lifestyle. While they may not be one to take big risks, they still live life to the fullest and aren't scared to do what needs to be done. They’re punctual, persistent, and most importantly, kind-hearted.
Sugar Cookie
Calling all my fellow Sugar Cookies! If you identify as more of an introverted old-soul, you are most likely a Sugar Cookie. Sugar Cookies will work hard, be diligent, detail-oriented, and tenacious. Sugar Cookies still have fun, but they are more sensible and less likely to do anything unpredictable. They like to be in control, and are usually routine followers with organized plans and somewhat rigid schedules. They tend to get stressed out more easily if things don’t go according to plan, but they are usually good at solving problems and getting things back on track.
Sprinkle Sugar Cookie
Sprinkle Sugars are very extroverted and outgoing with an impeccable zest for life. They also are highly ambitious and don’t let things get in their way. Sprinkle Sugars don’t often care what others think, they simply live life to the fullest and are not afraid to take risks and try new things. They tend to forget about the repercussions sometimes, but they always manage to handle anything that comes along their way. They’re extremely social and adaptable, and are most likely always full of energy and enthusiasm.
Peanut Butter
If you find yourself to be a homebody with a more laid back, calm, and collected personality, than you are most likely a Peanut Butter. Peanut Butters tend to enjoy time to themselves, but also love the company of others. While they’d rather have a fun night-in with a good movie and some tasty snacks, they’re easy-going and will most likely have a fun night-out once coerced out of the house.
Peanut butter Chocolate Chip
Much like Peanut Butters, PBCCs tend to enjoy the comfort of their own home as opposed to going out often. However, they tend to be a lot more active than PBs, and like to constantly keep busy. Whether that is cleaning the house, getting work done, or maybe even getting some exercise in– PBCCs are usually always doing something. In addition to being active, PBCCs are very creative and tend to be great problem solvers– especially in a time crunch!
Brownie Batter
Didn’t think you fit into any of the other categories? Well, then you're probably a Brownie Batter. Brownie Batters are unique and are often found to be a mix of many different personalities. Some days they are more outgoing and ambitious, while other days they are more laid back and humble. Brownie Batters are also ambiverts, having both introverted and extroverted tendencies depending on the situation.
Did you find a flavor you identify most with? I definitely think I am a good mix of all of them, but if I had to choose, I would definitely have to label myself as a Sugar Cookie.
Happy National Cookie Dough Day!

1) Let him sleep in!
If your father is anything like mine, then you know he is up at the crack of dawn most mornings. It is not often that dads get the luxury of sleeping in, so why not gift him some extra time in his PJs? Trust me– a little extra sleep for our busy dads can go a long way, and can also help make the rest of the day more enjoyable!
2) Breakfast & Coffee
Who says breakfast in bed pertains only to mothers? Treat your father with some delicious breakfast catered right to him, and don’t forget the coffee! If you're struggling to come up with some good breakfast items to make, consider getting take out from his favorite brunch spot. Sometimes dads just want a nice, quiet morning at home without the added hassle of crowded Sunday brunches.
**Whoa D. Tip: Add a Whoa Dough bar to his breakfast array for an extra mood boost!
3) Give him a massage!
Is your dad constantly complaining about his sore body and stiff muscles? If so, treat him to a massage! Whether that be a relaxing shoulder and foot rub, or the infamous back walk massage, help your dad loosen up his muscles and rejuvenate.
4) Family Activities
Is your dad a golfer? A hiker? A cycler? Whatever it is that he enjoys doing, do it with him! While this may not seem like much (especially if your dad does these activities often), there is nothing like getting to share what you love with the people you love.
5) Bake him something!
Does your dad have a raging sweet tooth or enjoy the occasional indulgence? Bake him something yummy to show him just how sweet he is. Need help coming up with a recipe? Whoa Dough is here to help! For a fast and simple treat, all you need is a Whoa Dough bar! Pick your favorite flavor, and begin molding it into a ball. Then, press it flat with a fork and put it onto a lined baking sheet in the oven at 350 degrees. After 10-12 minutes you will have a delectable, gooey, guilt free treat to give your dad!
No matter what you decide to do, just remember that the most important thing you can do to make Father’s Day wonderful is spending time with him. Cherish every moment you have with your father, and don’t forget to tell him you love him– dads want to hear that too.
Happy Father’s Day!

]]>Wherever or whatever you see yourself doing this summer, there is one essential every successful summer day should include: good snacks! If there is one thing that is certain, it’s the blissful comfort one feels behind having a delicious, better-for-you snack. Nothing makes you feel quite as joyful and fulfilled as the satisfactory bite of a palatable snack that you know is good for you.
Just this past week, the Whoa Dough Team had the pleasure of kicking off their summer at the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, where we got the chance to explore the floor and take home some of what happen to be our favorite summertime snacks. As an admirable member of the Whoa Dough family, we thought we would further help you kick off your summer by providing a list of some of the finest–and healthiest– sweets and snacks we came across in Chicago.
Now, before we go any further, of course Whoa Dough bars are number one on our list. I mean, come on– it’s Whoa! Besides the fact that it satisfies all your indulgent summertime cravings, our six exceptional flavors provide a healthier alternative to cookie dough without sacrificing the taste. Not to mention, all of our bars are vegan, gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free, non GMO, and kosher. Plus, four out of the six of our bars are peanut-free! So, if you are in need of an allergy-friendly, better-for-you snack, or just in need of that nostalgic, jovial feeling of eating raw cookie dough during summer nights– no need to read any further!
That being said, while we are all about eating Whoa Dough bars, who says that has to be your only summer snack? There are tons of snacks worth mentioning for you to try this summer– all in which are Whoa Dough approved! So, as promised, here is a list of ten wonderful brands we had the pleasure of sharing the trade show floor with last week:
1) Dream Pops
Much like Whoa Dough, Dream Pops is another healthy alternative that works to satisfy your sweet tooth without compromising flavor or taste. It provides a 100% plant based, gluten-free, and soy-free indulgence that tastes like ice cream–perfect for a hot summer day. Dream Pops does not use any sugar alternatives or artificial ingredients, keeping their product real and natural (getting our Whoa Dough seal of approval!).
2) UNiTE
UNiTE is another bar-based brand that works to provide you with a fun, tasty, on-the-go snack– all while remaining nutritionally balanced and allergen-friendly. UNiTE currently has three flavors of bars: Churro, Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Peanut Butter & Jelly. All three bars are gluten-free and soy-free, and even contain 10g of protein for an added energy boost.
3) Blake’s Seed Based
Also working to serve the allergy-friendly community is Blake’s Seed Based. Blake’s has a wonderful array of products consisting of snack bars, crispy treats, and good-ole sunflower seeds–all in which are perfect for your summertime cravings! Blake’s is free from peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy, and sesame– leaving you with a product that is not only safe from top allergens, but also healthy and delicious.
4) N!ck’s
N!ck’s is yet another health conscious brand that works hard to meet your summerly needs. Maybe you want to cool down on a scorching hot day with some of N!ck’s delectable ice cream, or perhaps you just want a nice and quick energy boost from their delicious snack bars. Whichever product you choose, just know you are getting a healthier, and lighter alternative that will satisfy your cravings. N!ck’s offers lower sugar, and derives their sweeteners from things like raisins, monk fruit, birch trees, and more! They also strive to keep most of their products gluten-free and keto-friendly.
5) Thunderbird
Up next on our list is Thunderbird. Their products are plant-based, paleo certified, and non-GMO. Like Whoa Dough, they look to provide you with an on-the-go bar that is made from real, high quality ingredients for guilt-free snacking. Thunderbird bars are packed with micronutrients, and they keep their ingredient list short, clean, and simple.
6) GoodSam
GoodSam not only works to make food that is good for you, but food that is good for the planet and farmers as well. Their mission is centered around humanness and creating real opportunity & change– something we at Whoa Dough are 100% here for! They have a great selection of snacks for the summer, including delightful chocolate bars and candy-coated nuts– both of which are sourced from regeneratively farmed ingredients. Their products are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, keto, and sugar-free, using only allulose as a sweetener.
7) Landmade
One of my personal favorite go-to snacks during the summertime are acai bowls. Landmade provides the perfect products to add to any kind of acai, smoothie, oatmeal, or yogurt bowl. Their products include superfood granolas and Go Bites. Even if you are not big on acai bowls, the great thing about Landmade’s products is their flexibility to be a multitude of different snacks! You can even enjoy their product by itself. In fact, their peanut butter granola is the perfect sized cluster for snacking right out of the bag, as well as their Go Bites– which are basically bite-sized pieces for on-the-go snacking, just like the name suggests! Additionally, Landmade products are gluten-free, filled with antioxidants, and are fiber rich.
The following three brands not only serve as a great summer snack, but also as a great source of protein for a possible meal replacement:
8) Battle Bars
Battle Bars is a veteran owned brand all about providing a better-for-you product while also serving as a source of fuel– on and off the battlefield– without any artificial sugars or filler-materials. This company strives to #fuelyourfight with their product, ensuring that each bar is packed with natural and tasty ingredients as well as a big punch of protein. Oh, and did I mention that it is also gluten-free?
9) ProBar
ProBar has quite the offering when it comes to protein packed, better-for-you snacks and meal replacements. ProBar is a great way to fuel through a hot summer day, with every ProBar product containing wholesome, plant-based ingredients such as chia, flax seeds, and agave nectar, as well as some clean, plant-based protein. ProBar products include meal, protein, and snack bars, as well as energy chews and snack thins. All products are organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, and kosher, ensuring that their products satisfy popular needs.
10) JiMMY! Functional Snacks
JiMMY! has a range of high protein, low sugar snacks that are even gluten-free! Their products consist of bars and dessert cups which host functional ingredients like immune boosting fruit, collagen, turmeric, guarana caffeine, and keto friendly nuts.
Hopefully you check out these ten wonderful brands and give them a try. We hope you have a wonderful start to your summer!

]]>The first thing you want to do when planning the perfect picnic is choosing a location and deciding where you want to go. Despite popular opinions, picnics aren’t just for the park! Whether it be at your local park, beach, your own backyard, or the peak of a mountain after a challenging hike, the possibilities are truly endless.
Once you have decided on a location for your picnic, it’s time to plan the menu and decide what you will be packing for food. Some of the best foods to pack on a picnic are ones that are simple to make and can be easily transported with you. Some of our favorites are sandwiches, pasta salad, cheese & crackers, veggies & hummus or dips, pre-cut fruit, trail mix, or any other easy on the go snacks! We also recommended you pack water to stay hydrated along with any other of your favorite beverages like lemonade, iced tea or juice. Oh and don’t forget to pack a few of your favorite Whoa Dough bars for dessert! Our non-refrigerated recipe and individually wrapped bars make for the perfect picnic snack for a sweet treat, anytime, anywhere.
Now that you have brainstormed a few ideas for what foods you will take with you it’s time to pack for your picnic! When packing for your picnic, it’s important to be efficient and only bring the things you will definitely need and use. You can certainly use a picnic basket if you have one, but if not a backpack or cooler works just as well! Neatly arrange your food and drinks into your bag of choice with silverware, disposable cups, napkins and ice packs to keep your food chilled and as fresh as possible. Along with your array of food and drinks, you want to pack a few things to make your picnic experience as great as possible. This includes a large blanket to spread out or chairs to sit on, yard games like frisbee or a football, as well as sunscreen or bug spray. The best part about packing for your picnic is how customizable it is. We’ve created an outline to get you started with a few ideas but other than that it’s entirely up to you!
We love seeing what our Whoa Dough family is up to. If you plan a picnic with Whoa Dough be sure to take a photo and tag us on Instagram! Whether it be at your local park, beach or even your own backyard, a picnic is the perfect activity for families of all ages! Bring some delicious sandwiches and snacks along with a big blanket and you are good to go! It’s truly that simple. Oh and don’t forget to pack a few of your favorite Whoa Dough bars for dessert :)
Go to the park and let nature be your playground! Parks aren’t only great for swinging, riding the seesaw, or attempting the jungle gym, but can also act as a great spot to walk, bike ride or have a picnic. The opportunities are truly endless!
Time to break out the wheels and get moving! There’s truly no better way to experience the sweet spring air than by feeling the wind through your hair and the fresh breeze on your face. Whether you choose to ride through your neighborhood, to the local park, or even on a designated bike path make sure to wear your helmet for optimal safety!
Finally a Saturday with no plans or appointments? Have yourself a wholesome day by roaming around and exploring your local farmers market! It is not uncommon for most towns or cities to hold at least one market throughout the weekend during spring. Markets are the best place to purchase the freshest produce, support local, small businesses, as well as taste test and sample new products! Depending on the size of the market, you will without a doubt always find something for everyone in the family to enjoy!
Getting bored of your normal stroll around the neighborhood? Switch things up and go on a hike! Take a look at your town's local trails online and pick one that best suits your family's hiking abilities. If you want to keep it easy opt for a flatter or shorter hike. Or if you're feeling up for a challenge you may choose a longer, more difficult trail. Either way be sure to pack plenty of water and a couple of Whoa Dough bars for a nutritious and delicious mid-hike pick me up!
You know what they say… April showers bring May flowers! May is usually the time of year when most plants, flowers and fruits all begin to bloom after a long, quiet winter. Take advantage of the harvest and visit your local farm to pick your own fruits and vegetables, or even flowers! Depending on the region in which you live, the optimal time for picking your own produce can vary from late spring until the end of the summer. However, if the fruit is not fully ripe yet you can usually graze the fields and cut your own flowers to bring home a beautiful bouquet.
Animals or roller coasters, which one do you prefer? Either option can be made into a super fun and adventurous family activity. Be sure to plan ahead and purchase tickets online beforehand to secure a spot for your family. Additionally, you won’t want to forget your camera, water and plenty of Whoa Dough for on the go snacking!
We hope these ideas inspire you to soak up the sunshine and spend your spring outdoors. Be sure to tag and mention Whoa Dough on Instagram so we can see how you have decided to #snackhappy this spring season!

Having a food allergy means that your body’s immune system negatively reacts to a food or substance it comes in contact with. The effects of allergies can vary depending on the severity. For example, if the allergic reaction is more mild it can cause coughing, sneezing, hives, rashes, itchy skin or stomach aches or cramps. However, if an allergy is more severe it can cause extremely low blood pressure, breathing trouble, asthma attacks or other life threatening effects. Although most allergies do not have a cure, they can be treated by implementing new diet practices or with certain dietary supplements. In addition to implementing new lifestyle changes, it is important to spread awareness and educate yourself in the allergy arena. Here are ten facts to get you started!
